We’ve all been there. It’s long past time for bed but your child is anything but sleepy. You feel exhausted and just want to get some rest, but they’re just about ready to run a marathon. Isn’t there a better way?
Bedtime can often be a contentious subject where children are concerned, and every parent has confronted the challenge of getting a rowdy young one to go to sleep. Here at Baby Smiles Labels, we’re always looking for ways to make your life easier. That’s why for this blog, we’ll detail three tips for making bedtime run smoothly – so both you and your child can get some sleep!
- 1. Keep it regular: Children need structure, and bedtime is no exception. Make bedtime a daily constant for them – set a time and stick with it every day. This will help them adjust to going to sleep, and if it’s a regular occurrence they’ll grow accustomed to falling asleep at the time you set.
- 2. Develop a ritual: Routines are very important for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and you can use this to your advantage when it comes to bedtime. Create a fun but relaxing routine for them surrounding sleep – consider a bedtime story, a bath, or a lullaby sing-along. Knowing what comes next will be comforting for them, making it easier for them to drift off when the time comes.
- 3. Turn screens off: Artificial light, particularly from TV and computer screens, is designed to keep us awake. If your child is on a screen right up to the time they go to bed, they’ll have a much harder time going to sleep. Turn TVs and computers off at least 2 hours before bed. This helps signal to their bodies that it’s nighttime and sleep is close at hand.
