Father’s Day is just a couple of weeks away, and we’re sure your little ones are eager to make the perfect gift for their dad, granddad, or any other father figure! Well… even if they aren’t, we’re betting Dad would love nothing more than a personal, handmade gift from his kiddos. At Baby Smiles Labels, we want to make every part of parenting easier, so for this blog, we’re going to look at an easy, fun craft that your kids can make for their old man!
The Perfect Desk Addition for Dad
Everyone could use more plants in their life, and this Father’s Day craft is a great way to help Dad practice his green thumb. For this craft, we’ll be making a toy dinosaur planter. It’s an easy, fun, versatile gift that Dad is sure to love! Here’s what you’ll need:
- An old dinosaur toy (hollow and preferably made of rubber – really any hollow, rubber toy will work
- Soil
- A plant of your choice (succulents are perfect)
- Optional: spray paint
To start, cut a round or oval hole in the back of your dino toy. It should be large enough to accommodate whatever plant you plan to use for the project. Once you’ve got your hole cut out, you can either spray paint the dino to a color of your choosing or leave it ‘au naturale’ – whatever you think Dad would like best. Once the paint is completely dry, fill the body of your dino with soft soil and plant your succulent (or any other plant) right into the hole in his. Water it to wash off any excess dirt, and viola! You’ve got an easy, fun gift that will look great on Dad’s desk.

We’ve all been there. It’s long past time for bed but your child is anything but sleepy. You feel exhausted and just want to get some rest, but they’re just about ready to run a marathon. Isn’t there a better way?
Bedtime can often be a contentious subject where children are concerned, and every parent has confronted the challenge of getting a rowdy young one to go to sleep. Here at Baby Smiles Labels, we’re always looking for ways to make your life easier. That’s why for this blog, we’ll detail three tips for making bedtime run smoothly – so both you and your child can get some sleep!
- 1. Keep it regular: Children need structure, and bedtime is no exception. Make bedtime a daily constant for them – set a time and stick with it every day. This will help them adjust to going to sleep, and if it’s a regular occurrence they’ll grow accustomed to falling asleep at the time you set.
- 2. Develop a ritual: Routines are very important for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and you can use this to your advantage when it comes to bedtime. Create a fun but relaxing routine for them surrounding sleep – consider a bedtime story, a bath, or a lullaby sing-along. Knowing what comes next will be comforting for them, making it easier for them to drift off when the time comes.
- 3. Turn screens off: Artificial light, particularly from TV and computer screens, is designed to keep us awake. If your child is on a screen right up to the time they go to bed, they’ll have a much harder time going to sleep. Turn TVs and computers off at least 2 hours before bed. This helps signal to their bodies that it’s nighttime and sleep is close at hand.

At Baby Smiles Labels we know that kids often come home sick from daycare with some new cold or infection, and as a parent you can feel helpless. It may seem that there is nothing that you can do to prevent your child from getting sick while at school. Though it is true that your child will catch a cold from time to time, you can always be prepared and take the necessary steps to avoid it at all costs! We hope that you will take some of our preventative tips into consideration in hopes of keeping your child healthy when colds attack!
Washing Hands & Hand Sanitizer
This one seems obvious but many children skip washing their hands and continue to spread germs by touching toys, art supplies, and playground equipment. Teaching your child to wash their hands frequently is one of the most simple and effective way for them to stay healthy in school. We also understand that sometimes it is difficult for the child to get to a sink to wash their hands as frequently as you may like. This is where the hand sanitizer comes in to save the day. Providing your child with an alcohol-based sanitizer and encouraging them to use it before eating or after using anything that is shared such as a computer, toys or water fountain is vital.
Avoiding The Mouth & Eyes
Again, this may seem like a practice that is obvious to us as adults but could be a habit instilled in children that must be broken. We have all seen it, a child standing there with his/her fingers in his/her mouth or rubbing their eyes. This is a sure way for you child to transfer any germs they have come into contact with right into their system. It is important to remind your child that not only should the wash their hands regularly but also keep their hands away from their mouths and eyes to avoid contracting a cold.
Label Water Bottles, Sippy Cups, Lunchboxes, etc.
We are all aware that sharing anything with some one that is sick is almost ensuring that you will contract whatever they may have. Clearly labeling your child’s thermos, sippy cup, re-usable water bottles, etc. is a great way to avoid this issue with your children. It is always important to reinforce with them that they should not share food or drinks with other kids to avoid germs. However, this is a great precaution to make sure that your child is clear on which food and drinks belong to them. Baby Smiles Labels is happy to provide waterproof, dishwasher safe labels for all of your child’s belongings.
Rest & Healthy Eating
While all of these tips are important to try and keep your kids healthy, it is also important that they are done in conjunction with rest and healthy eating. It is vital that your child is getting enough sleep and eating healthy otherwise they will be more vulnerable to illness. According to Webmd.com, children between the ages of 3-6 years of age should be getting about 10-12 hours of sleep per day. They also recommend that children go to bed between 7pm and 9pm at these ages.

Summer is only a couple short months away and we all know what that means, some free time for parents as we send our kids off to summer camp! For those of us sending our kids off for the first time this can be an emotional time. A majority of parents are never away from their children for longer than a night, so this can be a big deal for a lot of families. Thinking of everything your child might need whether it is a week to a whole summer can seem overwhelming, but here at Baby Smiles Labels we have your back!
Checklists Are Key!
Most of the time when you sign your child up for a summer camp they will provide you with a list of everything that you child needs for camp. This is a great start for all of the basics that your child will need to survive the summer away from home! From this list we suggest you expand into other things your child may require such as medications, special blankets, retainers, basically anything that is specific to your child’s needs.
Emotional Preparation
As we previously mentioned, this will probably be the only time throughout the year that you and your child spend a significant amount of time away from each other. It is important to emotionally prepare your child before they leave for their summer away with positivity and encouragement. It might seem like the thing to do, but avoid telling them how much you’re going to miss them and instead talk positively about all the fun they are going to have and all the friends they will make. A little encouragement will go a long way!
Use Personalized Labels To Protect Their Belongings
Whether your child is away for a week or the whole summer it wouldn’t be fun to have to consistently ship them new things once they are lost. The only sure way to make sure your child’s essentials don’t get mixed up with others is with personalized labels. You can label anything with our customized labels:
- Clothing
- Trunks
- Toiletries
- Bedding
- Flashlight
- Water Bottle
- Sunscreen
You name it and we can create a label for it! You can even create waterproof labels for raincoats, goggles, water bottles and more. Make your child’s camp experience unique today!
